Madison Founders Society

Established in 1981, the Madison Founders Society was created to recognize donors who have remembered James Madison University in their wills and estate plans. Our members demonstrate a steadfast confidence in the future of JMU and membership recognizes their generosity and vision. These legacy gifts have an indelible mark on future generations, changing the world one person at a time.

Madison Founders Society members share a common belief that JMU prepares students to become educated and enlightened citizens who lead productive and meaningful lives. They know that by giving to Madison, their gifts support students and professors who are reaching beyond the classroom to change the world. Beyond this shared goal, reasons to include JMU in one's financial and estate plan are as unique as each individual. You may be interested in giving to Madison while also increasing your own retirement income. Perhaps you own a rare collectible item you would like to share with future generations of Madison scholars. Or maybe you would enjoy the financial and tax savings that would accompany a gift to JMU. With thoughtful planning, you can provide for your financial goals and help JMU continue to be an extraordinary place to learn for future generations of students.

Madison Founders Society page with three paragraphs and a gold logo in the bottom right corner. Logo is a squared bottom and crescent-shaped top framing an image of the Wilson Hall cupola in the middle. It is all gold in color, and has the words Madison Founders Society around the top of the crescent shaped top. On the bottom of the logo, it reads James Madison University. Planned gifts come in many forms such as bequests in a will, testamentary gifts, charitable gift annuities, life insurance policies and life estate agreements and typically include tax advantages. Regardless of the gift planning strategy, each gift shares a single purpose: ensuring that Madison can continue to thrive into the future. If you have included JMU in your will or estate plan, the Office of Planned Giving would appreciate being notified so that we may ensure your wishes for this future gift can be honored. For more information about creating a legacy at Madison, including James Madison University in your will, establishing a scholarship or starting a guaranteed income for life through a charitable gift annuity, please contact our office. We would be honored to help you find the charitable plan that meets your financial and philanthropic goals.
