IRA Gifts

Giving to James Madison University from your IRA in 2013

The IRA Charitable Rollover has been extended through December 31, 2013. It permits a taxpayer age 70½ years or older to donate up to $100,000 directly from an IRA to James Madison University Foundation, Inc. The amount transferred will count toward the owner's required minimum distribution (RMD) and will not be included in his or her taxable income. Due to this savings, it does not qualify for the charitable income tax deduction.

  • Provide your IRA advisor with our taxpayer ID number and mailing address:

  • The IRS requires that the check be made payable to James Madison University Foundation, Inc.
  • Please notify us to expect your gift and tell us where you would like it directed. You may request your IRA Gift be donated to the area of the university that means the most to you, however, it cannot be used to provide goods or services or for Duke Club donations.
